This is how the new SYNC LOCK (beat lock) feature has worked for the last few updates to both DEX 3 and DEX 3 RE – both buttons have to be lit up (sync on) for lock to work. Once lock is on songs shouldn’t drift like in older versions. This is a demo of the always-in-sync feature: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4Qfnzko0XQ
SYNC when songs are idle (not playing) will attempt to ‘sync start’ when pressed.
I may not be totally understanding the behavior your describing regarding sync however. I do not recall anyone reporting issues and the feature has worked like this for a couple releases now. If you can explain things any further I’ll try my best to assist!
I think there may be something working incorrectly with sync now that I’ve tested a bit further using your notes. But, what I’ve found is that once both Sync buttons are engaged, every song I load thereafter I only have to click SYNC on the deck I just loaded a new track to. The opposite deck’s sync button remains engaged. Could it be that the songs where the sync button didn’t stay engaged be too different in tempo range for sync to work? I know that sync won’t lite up/work at all if tempos are too varied (not enough tempo range on the pitch fader to adjust accordingly).
The SYNC start is definitely not working properly. If you load up two new tracks (no sync on at all at this point) and click sync on one deck it should still engage sync on both as you said, so that it starts in step with the playing deck. I’ll report to development. We are planning to post a maintenance release in the next few days so maybe this is something we can address in that build.
