I just received this message:
I'm quite often asked how you can make your own skins for Ableton Live or if I could make a very specific one. Now Sonic Bloomer Emanuel Marius Becker has taken the time to create a guide for the free Max for Live Skin Editor. I have just polished his work and translated it, so that you can make use of it as well. Sep 22, 2015 Along with the skin editor, you can use free colour pickers off the internet to place precise colour schemes into your skins. Links and explanation are provided below. The Ableton Live skin editor was, as far as I know, originally published by Sonic Transfer. The site also published lots of skins. Browse over 7290 Ableton themes, customise any of them or create your own from scratch!
Hi Matt,
Sorry for responding late to your request regarding the skin editor. This landed on my desk while I have been traveling and, generally, very busy.
We have no problem with the skin editor being published. Quite frankly, my understanding of the legal matters involved here is very limited and I would rather not hold this up longer than I already have, so please accept a revocable permission.
In any case, thanks for your enthusiasm for Live!
Best, Gerhard

While this letter doesn't really provide any legal protection, it's good enough for me. So, without further ado, the beta test is now open. Sorry for responding late to your request regarding the skin editor. This landed on my desk while I have been traveling and, generally, very busy.

For the first few days only SonicTransfer newsletter subscribers can download the editor. This is to ensure that everyone is using the latest version while the major bugs are ironed out.
To download the editor for Windows & Mac:
1) Go to sonictransfer.com and sign up for the free newsletter.
2) You should instantly get an email telling you where to download the editor.
3) If you don't get the instructions, then email me.
After you make some cool skins, share them with the world by uploading to the Ableton Skin Library.
